Day 164 June

more washing on the line thankful for a dry morning before rain arrived heavily

bruising pretty spectacular after latest fall leg is yet again strapped but mobile

Listened to The Sixteen on CD during the afternoon as the rain fell heavily and I planned out the stages of the building work still to come. Know the builders and I need to discuss this so we can make sure materials are here when they need them and I am not spending money when it’s not really needed. The next stage of work has been discussed, builders have agreed they want to do the work just the small matter of getting costing out of them in writing. Must underline I will not sanction them starting on this without me having costing breakdown in writing. They just hate doing paperwork of any kind which is kind of shooting themselves in the foot especially having seen their work and working ethos first hand.

 

 

Day 163 June

revelling in the lack of disturbance eating breakfast in bright sun under umbrella

hanging out wash under the gaze of watchful Robin and singing Blackbird 

sparrow fledglings launch themselves towards line with more verve than accuracy

more colours in leaf bud bloom as I consider the next snipping clipping operation

 

Watched a few YouTube videos about continuous warping on small looms, would like to watch some of these off line but seems real player is the only way and only on the version that has to be paid for. Having these small videos on disc would be so useful for someone with lack of memory

Loom gates at the front of the side of cottage grows as an idea; wooden frame with wooden dowels as pegs, woven on then second frame with holes drilled to match dowel position fixed in place to hold the weaving in place. A triangle square and circle joined so they fold to open and lock in to place to form solid barrier, cardboard and pin experiments first.

Day 162 June

accepting why I find myself seemingly surrounded by cement plaster noise

offers new vista externally blows internal one wide apart brings understanding

 

Wondering how large I can make a pot holder loom considering making ‘gate’ panels to match size of plastic palettes by making loom enclosed by frame, small mock ups seem to work so will continue upping the size slowly when I can gather more materials to make the ‘loom’ and to weave on it.  A solid 6 foot gate attached to the bathroom / hallway wall will be the lockable barrier against access in to the garden.so the front side gates can be much more fun.

Day 161 June

lying in darkened room with sound of industry in attic and on roof above me

stillness midst activity silence blanketing the noise deep breathing brings sleep

decisions and choices continue to be made from under duvet even if muffled

rigger boots tiptoeing up and down stairs makes me smile in thanks

 

Propped up by builder thrilled to see the view out of the ‘new hole’ in my roof, I will be able to almost touch the owl that visits now and watch the bats chase the midges. The kindness of strangers is always a connection beyond question or demand, a priceless gift.

Day 160 June

seeing shock on another’s face is never easy but silly to pretend it doesn’t happen

dis-ease fails to confound as living with not fighting against is smiled air of truth

 

Built drawbridge for Flo under the temporary ‘gate’ over the cement sludge much to the amusement of the builders but they happily found me some stones of the right size for the pillars.

Found an outlet for fibreglass pole to fix my twirling rainbow wind sock to attach to that will go in the back garden and a small flag pole to fix to the pine end for my rainbow flag, once the wall is dried out and painted, builders are going to paint the whole wall orange again. Thinking about ideas for the wall with the decision of smooth render giving more possibility for me to ‘play’, certainly want it to be a little more than ‘just’ an orange wall.

Day 159 June

enveloped by their scent way before I spied the vase holding the delicate stems

they made me smile as tears pricked at my eyes I picked your favourite colour

finding them on your birthday felt such a gift sadness came too in missing you

this place you never visited filled with heady sense of you in flowers unfurling

 

Celebrating a birthday by doing something that would have brought forth laughter seemed just the right thing. Propped upon the bed with Flo by my side I imagined the armchair filled by a chatty smiling woman and knew she would get the latest ‘joke’ the cottage will deliver in days ahead. Couldn’t help but wish her bunting would really be here too but each stitch is a memory of her so they are hers too.

Cast on 2 stitches and knit every row (garter stitch) Increase one stitch at the beginning of every 3rd row. Continue until each triangle measures about 12cms wide and 18cms deep. Cast off  

Think this size will go well with loom flower bunting but only time will tell and the five year olds out for a walk:0). Certainly want some felted, some left just knitted, some woven both as flowers and triangles. Still to decide whether these will be strung or flown, maybe both!

Day 158 June

can’t remember how many what size which order chimney pots stood on old stack

thankfully memory found on camera card before demolition new pots ordered

 

Made some more woven test squares for the dice, want them to look almost like wood with pyrographed lettering on them but probably need a yarn that is more ash than oak in colour so the lettering shows up easily to read. I think I have got some variegated yarn that will fit that bill but can’t access it at present as it is Covered by blankets and sheets so the builder can cut grind hammer and create much dust. Still trying to sort out how to join the squares in a way that pleases me and enables them to roll but am getting there: a woven box for the set is also an idea I want to explore.

Day 157 June

resting so tiresome when just routine counter that with special beyond the need

bowl warm water soap soaked feet fluffy towel moisturiser resting as exceptional

Watched latest Dr Who episode on iplayer, had been written by Richard Curtis. Brilliant script, fine acting and direction; powerful, clear and understandable portrayal of severe depression / bi-polar for any child watching to get some idea that mental complexity, as Richard Curtis called it when talking about his reasons for writing the script, can be approached with gentleness not fear with the added thrill of an alien and jokes, chases and time travel. Using Vincent Van Gogh as the cipher for the exploration of depression was handled truthfully for it’s targeted young audience, Bill Nighy delivers his 100 words at the end beautifully and I have no shame that I cried at the end along with others I suspect. The programme on the making of this episode was also very good with a visit to the Getty Museum with Tony Curran who plays Vincent as he explored the man and his work plus both he and Richard Curtis talking about how their research affected their view of this genius painter and themselves really

 

 

Day 156 June

the scent of the mock orange gloriously embraces me as I open the kitchen door

another encounter with the trailing ribbons of the pied piper of summer solstice

Took a series of photos of the scaffolding on the pine end then of the lane in relation to the work, not sure where I am going with this but it seems more than just snaps of me spending money or keeping tabs on work; just know I need to do this for something else.

 

Day 155 June

pattern of the day new as rising sun only need to relax become a part not apart

a cheerless life challenged by acceptance without obligation obedience just truth

progress halted deliberate impedance in another’s rant but the longer route is fine

gently hold don’t grasp this will work if I see beyond a mean and sad others life

 

Early morning has become even more important with the builders working here all day. Today I took the HAPI drum out on the yard around 4,30am and welcomed the morning by adding my ‘voice’ to the chorus of birds, we ‘sang’ along together for about an hour, Rhys asleep at my feet Banon asleep on the bench next to me, then wandered around watering the pots cleaning the yard eating breakfast with The Sixteen singing from the kitchen. Early morning as gift expressed in moments of stillness listening and interaction with nature, joy.
