Created a rough of mini book using
publisher package – teach myself again as I go along. Each tabulated square
given text box which I can then turn 180 degrees if I wish.

Experimenting with different
thicknesses and lengths of yarn working with finger knitting to make cords and
flowers, want to see which wool yarn I have felts well when finger knitted. Good
activity for the settee and poor eyesight. One finger chain re-knitted to make
a bulky cord, what length needs for first knit chain to make thick enough
chain.
BBC Radio 3 once again helped
with the noisy ears and calmed the breathing.

Watched documentary /
interview called ‘Alice Sommer Herz at 106: Everything Is a Present.’ This documentary
celebrated the extraordinary life of distinguished pianist and Holocaust
survivor Alice Sommer Herz. I found the programme life affirming and the obvious
twinkle in the eye of Alice Sommer to be so powerful after the life she has
lived. Have down loaded the programme so hope to watch it again. At 106 she
still spends two and half hours each day practicing her piano playing. I loved
her statement that music saved her through the concentration days and continues
to do so to this day. The connection with creation of her music to nature and
all life shone through the whole programme.
This programme linked in with
reading I have been doing regarding creative activity helping those with
chronic pain and illness now being finally recognised by the NHS.I look forward
to the day when a prescription reads ‘Take two doses a day of …….’ The blank
being filled in with needlecrafts, making music singing or instrument, using
glue and paper etc. There is definitely
change happening in this area and the recognition it doesn’t need professionals
to deliver this ‘drug’ but anyone with a little skill and a little time can be
part of the prescription.

Played some more with mini
book ideas.
Managed to drop my very large
tidy box of soft pastels down the stairs, aint so tidy now and the staircase is
certainly colourful, I was going to sort them out a bit anyway. Another good reason
for wanting to put the boxes up on the wall near my easel and work table, easy
reach but may be not so easy drop. Another clarification for making designated
rooms.

Dug out tripod and attached
camera, the head of the tripod is a bit faulty but as experiment it does ok. Put
the tripod in the bosh and tried to hone in on bird table to see if it would
help. My hands shake so obviously these days that even getting non zoom photos is
difficult it did help and it will do as my tripod but I continue to save for a
sturdy lightweight tripod that allows me to take macro shots inside and out in
the countryside as well as general photo photo’s. The ones I’ve looked at that
offer that are not cheap to say the least £50 plus and then some but slow saving
will get me there. At present I am just learning how to use my camera all over
again so time enough for a new tripod.
Researched again the mini
book – 16 pages out of one A4 sheet, three different ideas, all to experiment
with in the next couple of days want to consider how to combine handmade with
computer aided production, stitch and glue.

Tried to lift some boxes but
too much strain on leg, so, filled some rubble sacks with yarn and small looms instead,
in readiness for their move into the Attic room; when I am able to carry things
up the stairs that is. Sorted through more papers and piles in sitting room whilst
sitting with leg up on stool awkward but managed. Kitchen continues to be mine
rather than chaos, though there are bags and containers to take up the stairs so
their various contents can be placed in their new designated places they do not
threaten just line up in an orderly fashion. Slowly it comes together and the
plan has not been ripped up just adjusted a little here and there which is good
as the adjustments are about the reality of the space and me. Being
concentrated on the task in hand, aware of the moment and continually drawing
myself back to centring my thought on each small step gives me sense of
progress but more sense of me.

Considering dice chess board
games. Collection of die shapes continues to grow am enjoying making them. Dice
and chess pieces seem to want to be together in the project. Thirty two chess
pieces 64 squares on chess board numbers are taking me somewhere…
in the garden surveying the
damage from snow and flood still made me smile
an hour a day out there from
February 1st would be good just the leg to agree

Watched Arena programme on Brian Eno, interesting to see his work space, hear him talking a little about his work but most of all I found it fascinating watching him, how animated and alive he is when working at his keyboards and how frustrated he can still get when things break etc…polymath he may be but very human too. Found it interesting just how much he felt looking back was not something he entertained; it’s now or the future or nothing.
Remembered the box of ‘Oblique
Strategies’ that Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt put together some time in the 1970’s,
which I found in a secondhand bookshop in London. Seems I should have not given
it as a gift because it is now worth rather a lot of money. Glad I gave it away.
I’ve just continued to write my own box of cards I suspect.

Continued with dice and
words, find the sound of the 331 read out loud rather compelling. Making a
recording of this is something to think about. Word search ‘sentences’ woven
shapes with words stitched on them joined to make new forms.
Watched first of three
programmes called Chemistry A Volatile History, remembered how much I liked
chemistry and physics at some time in my life, remembered some of the
experiments. Made note on diary to download this again next week.
