Why the name?
Being focussed on the moment transports Daisy-Winifred, elsewhere, not away but further in to that moment; wherever or whatever, if the moment is her focus then a transformation and creativity can occur. As she looks at a landscape she sees colours others don’t, when she hears music she feels colours, when she writes words some carry coloured shapes. So, if you see pink peas and purple parsley they are not mutant veggies they are there in Daisy-Winifred’s minds eye :0)
What on earth is Upwelling Art?
Just like the title says it is a journey of the imagination but more, it’s the connection and communication Daisy-Winifred discovers as she uses tools and materials with hand heart and eye, which take her way beyond green peas and parsley. Yes she visits galleries, yes she learns about Artists, yes she has learnt techniques from others but she finds peace in being an artist outside the needs and wants of the market of art for investment, status or fame.
Daisy-Winifred sees her art as rising up from her inner need to express her own unique mythology, iconography and symbolism, welling up from deep at the centre of her as means of guiding and accompanying her on her journey. Regardless of any artistic conventions or of public expectations it is the process rather than the product that she finds ‘treasure’ in. She also sees no division between arts and craft so materials and methods from both ‘camps’ are mixed and mingled into her Upwelling Art.
Where?
Daisy-Winifred’s studio is her cottage and garden found in a
valley in Wales, it is a place to rest, place to think, place to listen, place to set off on adventures without ever leaving this environment.
However, much like the saying 'Home is where the heart is', Daisy-Winifred's studio
can also be found everywhere her heart is. As she carries an easel and tool box
along a mountain track in a howling gale, holding a camera steady as she lays
over the edge of a cliff, picking up 'jewels' off a street, watching clouds
from her armchair, driving a sewing machine round hair-pin bends,
juggling needles of all sorts, using words to create pictures and pictures to
create words, digging up weeds and picking edible produce
from her garden, serving freshly baked bread and homemade soup, her studio is in
fact anywhere she finds herself with a note/sketchbook and a mark making tool,
a flat rock and stick stuck into a muddy puddle will do too.... the list goes
on.
Here at “Pink Peas and Purple Parsley” you’ll find some of Daisy-Winifred’s creations, she calls them art not Art and herself an artist not an Artist.
She hopes you’ll communicate with her by email, maybe to take part in a swap, tell her why a gift has your name on it or discuss sharing through a purchase.

Each item listed on this site will have one of these symbols attached. I hope you'll enjoy looking at all the items and contact me if you are interested in finding one in your care.
The swap symbol means I will be asking for something from you, it might very well be something completely different from the item up for swap so don't worry if you don't 'do' fibre.
The gift symbol means just that, if you think the item would make you smile or add some other positive to your life just write to me and tell me why it is your gift:0)
The purchase symbol does mean the item is 'for sale', however the sale price is set by us both, it's not an honesty box kind of system where you plonk your coins in the slot and walk away without saying hello. I could put up a 'for sale at £...' notice for what it would sell for commercially but that is not what this place is about. The purchase symbol is there because I would like the purchase to be an expression of the connection between us all so I intend to pass on all the money from sales, barring the replacement cost of the materials, to anyone I hear of who is finding they have even less than the mythical $1/60p a day to live on in their terms. That will be people I hear of in my locality and further afield through web word of mouth and charities I try to support like Save The Children and Water Aid. I will send regular updates to purchasers of how their money has been shared.
